Thoughts on Eugenics

I find it almost ironic and extremely confusing when fundamental theists ask me my opinion on Eugenics.  Especially when the are trying to relate it to Atheism.

Eugenics is the applied science of the bio-social movement which advocates practices that improve the genetic composition of a population, usually a human population.[2][3] It is a social philosophy advocating the improvement of humanhereditary traits through the promotion of higher reproduction of more desired people and traits, and reduced reproduction of less desired people and traits.[4]

And to clarify a frighteningly common mistake: DARWIN IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR EUGENICS. Francis Galton is.  It is not the same thing as Natural Selection or Evolution.

In practice, Eugenics is ethnic cleansing. It is tribal slaughter. It is the God of the Bible instructing the murder of entire Pagan tribes, even down to every pregnant woman, to destroy their lineage. It is the stoning, burning and wholesale murder of anyone who disagrees with desirable traits.  It is Nazi Germany. It is Christians being fed to lions. It is Muslims murdering any woman with a streak of independence.  It is Jews refusing to mate with or marry outside their faith.

In other words, if there is anyone practicing Eugenics in today’s society, it is NOT Atheists.   The next time someone asks me my opinion on Eugenics, as an Atheist, I will simply reply:

If God were real, he would be the biggest fan.

While the Israelites were camped at Acacia, some of the men defiled themselves by sleeping with the local Moabite women.  These women invited them to attend sacrifices to their gods, and soon the Israelites were feasting with them and worshiping the gods of Moab.  Before long Israel was joining in the worship of Baal of Peor, causing the LORD’s anger to blaze against his people.  The LORD issued the following command to Moses: “Seize all the ringleaders and execute them before the LORD in broad daylight, so his fierce anger will turn away from the people of Israel.”  So Moses ordered Israel’s judges to execute everyone who had joined in worshiping Baal of Peor.  Just then one of the Israelite men brought a Midianite woman into the camp, right before the eyes of Moses and all the people, as they were weeping at the entrance of the Tabernacle.  When Phinehas son of Eleazar and grandson of Aaron the priest saw this, he jumped up and left the assembly.  Then he took a spear and rushed after the man into his tent. Phinehas thrust the spear all the way through the man’s body and into the woman’s stomach.  So the plague against the Israelites was stopped, but not before 24,000 people had died.  (Numbers 25:1-9 NLT)

Tell me again how evil Atheism is.  How bad Evolution and Natural Selection are.  Eugenics is not “natural”.  It is mass murder and the religious have been practicing it worldwide for thousands of years.

Unconstitutional

That word is a mouthful.  Here’s a fun game:

Open Google. Search for “Unconstitutional State Law”.  See the horror.

Once upon a time, our country was divided.  Back before cars, trains or planes.  When people were born and died in one county.  Where family businesses were owned and operated for generations on the same tract of land.  Now some people think these were “the good old days”  I see them as the dark ages.  You know what happens when people don’t have TV or the Internet to expose them daily to other cultures?  They become narrow minded.

So sure, maybe the corn farmer in Nebraska doesn’t NEED to know who the president of Libya is.  Hell I don’t even know if Libya has a president.  And that doesn’t make anyone a bad person or a moron.  People have limited time and resources.  You can’t possibly KNOW everything there is to know about everything.  But you can, however, be self aware.  Self aware of your lack of knowledge.  You can be aware that there are other cultures, religions and races outside your small community.  And you can realize that we all SHARE this planet and this country and, yes, even the state.

So that’s why we have a US Constitution.  It’s not perfect.  But the idea that there are inalienable human rights not to be violated should reign supreme.  It’s a philosophical debate as old as time.

So does it upset me in this day to see states living by archaic ideas?  To see local governments that require elected officials to be theist: http://www.patheos.com/blogs/friendlyatheist/2009/12/15/which-states-ban-atheists-from-holding-public-office/

To see local governments pushing religious ideas into public schools: http://www.firstamendmentcenter.org/aclu-ind-creationism-bill-is-unconstitutional

To see that many states still tell privately owned business when they can be open on Sunday and what they are allowed to sell. everystateever. :3

I know democracy isn’t perfect.  And this is just an example of “tyranny of the majority”.  But there are certain rights guaranteed ALL citizens, no matter where they live.  Free speech.  Freedom of (and FROM) religion.  Free Enterprise.  etc.  And the Federal Constitution should and always has trumped State constitutions.

So Ron Paul supporters, I ask you this: Why do you still insist on saying silly things like “If you don’t like the Sate’s laws, just move” when I can so readily reply “If you don’t like the Federal constitution, then why are you part of the United States?”

States who wish to maintain the freedoms and protections and tax funded benefits of the US Government have to abide by the Constitution.  It’s a simple idea really. So STOP fighting it.

Why Chic-fil-A Supporters are Hypocrites

Should the CEO of a national chain of crappy chicken joints be free to say whatever they want and blow their income on hate groups?  Sure, go ahead, be proud of your ignorance.

But by all means, religious intolerance needs to take a step back and look in the mirror.  Fact is, “majority moral opinion” has already set the precedent to limit free enterprise all across this country.  Don’t believe me?

Read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_alcohol_laws_of_the_United_States_by_state

Sunday liquor limitations are just the tip of the problem.  15 states ban the sale of liquor on Christmas and 8 of them include bans on Easter.

Now ask yourself why.

Obviously there is no issue with selling alcohol itself.  So why only on Sunday?  Why only on Christian holidays?  Because the MORAL OPINION of the majority took a vote or in some cases just passed a law to ban sales and limit how private businesses could be run in their city.

Now let’s take a closer look at the laws in a few select cities:

Salt Lake City, Utah: http://fox13now.com/2012/01/24/federal-lawsuit-filed-against-the-state-over-liquor-laws/

Clearwater, Florida: http://www.sptimes.com/2004/07/18/Tampabay/Scientology_s_town.shtml/

Food bans in Brooklyn because of Palestine/Israel issues: http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/park-slope-food-co-op-schedules-vote-hold-a-referendum-banning-israeli-products-article-1.1026542#ixzz1n4pt6xHx

Pennsylvania Strip Club laws: http://www.ehow.com/info_8081403_pennsylvania-strip-clubs-near-schools.html

Now, don’t get me wrong.  I am a fan of actual FREE enterprise.  But when the opposition is playing so aggressively to BAN every single thing THEY find offensive, I find it hypocritical to start pointing fingers at everyone else when one of YOUR businesses comes against a wall of opposing moral opinion.

Either make the laws Federally applicable to ALL businesses or allow Chicago and Boston and San Francisco ban homophobic chains who make financial contributions to anti-homosexual attack groups  from their cities.  You cannot have it both ways religious fanatics.  You just can’t.

Change.org Military Atheists petition!

Holy Crud!  You know that little baby petition I thought no one would read back in April?  It’s now over 500 signatures! And reading through the comments, I feel so much less alone in this world.  ❤  I am so happy right now.  I wish I could express in words.  Just, thank you.  To each and every person who continues to speak out. Thank you.

Welcome Fellow Sinners

This blog exists for my atheist rants that I’m too cowardly to post on my facebook page where friends and family members who still believe would get into arguments and debates with me thus ruining our friendships through mutual misinformation.

Know now, fellow atheist, that you are not alone.  In fact, there are more of us than you may think:
